RICHARD ROSENBAUM & THE RED HYDRANT CHRONICLES
The Manhattan Roots: A Childhood at the Met
Richard Rosenbaum’s artistic consciousness was forged in the galleries of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Growing up in Manhattan near Museum Mile, he spent a childhood immersed in the masterworks of human history. This early exposure to the "Institutional" standard of beauty remains the bedrock of his aesthetic rigor.
The Hudson River Power
The decision to relocate to the Hudson Valley was driven by the strange, undeniable power of the Hudson River School painters. Their unique perception of light and atmosphere fundamentally altered Rosenbaum’s vision. He continues that tradition today, treating the valley’s atmosphere not as a mere landscape, but as a personal gateway into the "Luminist" state of mind.
A Personal Concentric Reliquary
Rosenbaum’s work functions as a Private Concentric Reliquary—a layered sanctuary where each medium and gallery serves as a protective circle around his own central truths. To Rosenbaum, the "Television Paintings" and multimedia light boxes are not just art objects; they are sacred vessels designed to preserve a "Lore" that is deeply personal. Within these layers, his own memory intertwines with visual experience, creating portals into his unique reality.
This philosophy was exemplified in his 2024 exhibition at the Hammond Museum, where his work "Any Major Dude" anchored his contemporary explorations into the sentience of plant life and the interconnectedness he perceives between all living beings.
The Pedigree
His journey began with the study of Semiotics and Structuralism at Brown University under Robert Scholes, followed by Holography and poetry at UCLA. He refined his vision at the School of Visual Arts (SVA) in New York City, mentored by titans including Will Insley, David Salle, and Marshall Arisman. As a founding member of the artist collective E.Y.E. (est. 2003), he has spent decades pushing the boundaries of performance and traditional art, with work featured in the MvVO ART Ad Art Show at the Oculus (WTC) and the Visionary Art Collective.
Red Hydrant LLC: Seeking the Emerald City
Operating today as Red Hydrant LLC, Rosenbaum views the creation of this archive as a vehicle for what he perceives as angelic intervention. In his reality, the "Emerald City" is not a distant myth, but a shimmering frequency that feels within reach through the disciplined gaze of the artist.
